The word doppleganger comes from the German Doppelgänger, literally meaning "double-goer," and has found widespread use in popular culture. A doppleganger is a double of a person or sometimes their look-alike. A doppleganger can be someone who looks just like the person, or it can be someone who represents another part of the person's personality. Authors often use dopplegangers in literature to demonstrate two different aspects of the person's character. There is a lot of symbolism in this work ; the green and pink streams , running downwards from left to right , represent the natural world which sustains us , as green for plants , and pink for animals . Nicolas Grahame Young ( born 1952 ) , won the Sussex Open American Express art prize , at Brighton museum ( UK ) , in 1998 . He was considered , in the words of the judges , the " least derivative " entrant . His work is a unique mixture of abstract surrealism and biomorphism ; he has always been interested in shape and colour , and the tension between nature and the world made by mankind . Young doesn't mind whatever interpretation viewers have of the paintings , as long as they find them stimulating , and hopefully see something different every time they look at them .
